With great sadness , condolences and sympathy are extended to the family of Robert Boyd, who recently passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Robert possesed a beautiful, light, lyric tenor voice which was both pure and expressive. Ideally suited to the genre of oratorio and especially the works of Bach, Handel, Haydn and Mozart, he brought great joy to those who had the privilege of hearing him in performance over many years.

Thank you Robert, for being such a pleasure to work with and introducing me to the choral music of Camille Saint-Saëns. I am sure you will be sorely missed but remembered with great fondness and affection.

The following sound file was taken from a performance of Mozart’s version of Handel’s “Messiah” based on the 1789 edition. The performance took place in the Great Hall of Sydney University on the 9th December 2006 with the choir and orchestra of the Sydney University Graduate Choir under my direction.
