Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) composed his Messe Basse in collaboration with André Messager whose movements , Kyrie and Benedictus were retired and replaced in December 1908 by Fauré’s own Kyrie and Benedictus which was a reworking of the discarded Gloria from the original version.

Although there is no comparison with his famous Requiem, this arrangement for S.A.T.B choir, organ and strings, gives the work greater colour and emotional contrast and would be delightful addition to a choir’s repertoire.
